Mari Catrin Phillips, known by their artistic name Mythsntits, is a queer Welsh illustrator based in Cardiff, originally from Pembrokeshire in West Wales. Their work combines traditional and digital mediums to explore themes of queer and feminist history, mythology, and identity. By reinterpreting folklore and historical narratives with humor and irreverence, Mari creates art that is both playful and thought-provoking, aiming to empower marginalized voices and challenge societal norms.
Mari's first solo exhibitions in 2018 , Mythsntits, which was the pivotal moment that ignited their exploration of mythology and folklore. This exhibition marked the birth of their distinctive style, blending humor with deep, introspective themes around identity, power, and history. Since then, their work has expanded into a variety of creative projects, collaborating with a range of notable organizations and individuals.
Mari has designed merchandise for Panic Shack, Chroma, and the Welsh Ballroom Community, while also creating artwork for Who You're Wearing, a podcast by Kiri Prichard-McLean, and Esgusodwch Fi?, the first queer Welsh-language podcast by Meilir Rhys Williams and Iestyn Wyn. They have also contributed content for Hansh and the Eisteddfod, helping to bring their unique queer and feminist perspective to Welsh cultural platforms.
Mari's work has been featured on Iaith ar Daith and Cymru ar Gynfas with Owain Wyn Evans, further expanding their reach and influence within Wales.
